@Gargron I agree. From #Detroit-based #Socialist journal #AgainstTheCurrent: "Socialists should support the #HarrisWalz ticket, not because they represent a significant progressive alternative, but because it gives us four more years in our democracy — such as it is — to organize social and political movements to fight for the working class and the oppressed and raise the ideal of democratic socialism."
#KamalaHarris just keeps lurching right but y’all “But Trump” #Democrats are just gonna keep riding that train to hell with her. This is fascism.

Guys, it's that bad. I don't know how to get it across to anyone who doesn't get it that it is that bad. Even just voting isn't enough. I hope you're doing something else, too. That was an actual Nazi rally. Things are not going to stay normal, even if you are a little bit down the line. Believe them.
When public service is a family affair.
Jeff Bezos personally killed WaPo's endorsement of Kamala Harris. He did it as a preemptive demonstration of obedience to a tyrant who promised to murder people who are disloyal to him.
And we made it, and then some. On to the next goal: $60k.
Writing that thread about the stakes of the election from my perspective really took a lot more out of me than I thought it was going to though, so please get to $60k while I take a break for a while.
Make that $200.
An hour later and we're only a little over $300 from the new goal. Thank you to everyone donating. Really inspiring to watch.
Okay, time to properly launch this: SUPER SWING DISTRICTS! https://superswingdistricts.org
This is a slate of Democratic candidates calculated for maximum impact for your donation dollars.
National campaigns receive a ton of money, but can't always deploy it locally in the places that the Electoral College, gerrymandering, and … shenanigans mean it needs to be spent. But figuring out which local campaigns *can* use it is a lot of work. This site is the output of that work.
"In a dire Trumpian future, you’re almost certainly not going to have an end to elections. They still have elections in Hungary, Turkey, even Russia. What you’d have is stuff like this, states acting as what amounts to an active belligerent in the political process by mobilizing state power.
It’s already happening in Florida."
He isn’t running to be VP; he’s running to be president, either when Trump dies in office or when Trump dies in prison.
Trump showed the oligarchs just how weak US democracy is, and there's a lot of money that's ready to put somebody right at the heart of the rot who's not a batshit con artist, but a slick, surefooted tool.
Vance is •extraordinarily• dangerous. Torpedo this man. Destroy him.

Vance has exactly the same problem as ChatGPT: people are suckers for bullshit if it’s well-formed bullshit. They mistake grammar for intelligence. They mistake appropriate social forms for social relationships.
This guy is a human black hole who can mimic all the appropriate forms, and unlike Trump, he is the hand-picked choice of the oligarchs.

I.... I don't think that's how hurricanes work, Donald.
They will all die and not be remembered, except as a faint stench growing fainter by the day...
The downside of the Democrats having an actually exciting candidate with a shot at winning the election is that every leftward YouTube channel spams my feed 8 times a day with "SHOCK POLL means Trump is DONE FOR" whenever there's a poll in Montana that shows Harris up by +3
I thought I was done, but I'm so enraged about it that I need to say more.
This dumb rule isn't about tallying the votes, it's about counting the number of physical ballots to confirm they match up with the count in the tabulator.
City election departments have big, powerful machines whose sole purpose is to count physical ballots orders of magnitude more quickly and accurately than people can.
THERE IS NO LEGITIMATE REASON FOR THIS HAND COUNT.

You will not find a single reputable expert in the field of election security who thinks this policy is necessary, appropriate, or good. There is no science to back it up. There are no historical events to cite to justify it. There is no evidence that it will improve election security in any way.
All it is, is a big fuck-you to poll-workers, Georgia's voters, and everyone else in this country who cares about democracy.

As @mattblaze will happily tell you, there is a valid concept of risk-limiting audits conducted after elections to validate that the results haven't been tampered with. But this thing the Georgia board of elections is imposing on poll-workers is not that. It's a bullshit process, and poll-workers are _guaranteed_ to make mistakes while carrying it out. It won't limit risk, it will increase risk by sowing doubt.
THAT'S THE POINT.

The Georgia board of elections has just decided, "Hey, overworked, understaffed poll-workers! After more than 12 hours of work, when you're tired and cranky and in no condition to do detail-oriented work, we need you to stay at the polls for hours extra counting all the ballots three times, a completely useless endeavor since you're all honest people and the ballots have already been counted by the machines. Good luck with that!"

Polling places are often understaffed due to a lack of people willing to volunteer to do the work. This is especially true for presidential elections, which are crazy busy compared to off-year and local elections.
By the time the polls close at the end of the day, most poll-workers have been there for 12 or more hours (in MA where I work the polls, it's 14). They are tired and cranky and just want to go home.

I want to share some important background information about this new Georgia elections rule, from the perspective of a poll-worker:
Poll-workers are not skilled professionals extensively trained in the complexities of conducting an election. They're everyday people with widely varying levels of skill, intelligence, and physical ability who take a few days out of every year to help keep democracy running in this country.

Unless these shitheads are soundly defeated in Georgia and elsewhere in November, I don't see how the trajectory we're on leads anywhere other than full-on civil war.
These people are sabotaging the election. Everyone knows that's what's going on. Claims to the contrary are transparent bullshit.
These people have given up all pretense of respecting democracy or the union. If we don't stop it soon, a total split is only a matter of time.
