A coworker says the only way to get out of the tunnel traffic in Monterey during the summer is to bike.

I was once stuck in it: 1h (0.5 miles). Never again. Walking it is nicer, and you can also look at the sunset over the water.

Looking forward to all my bike rides there this summer. (Many people don’t live locally. They have to go to San Jose or Santa Cruz, and during rush hour it can be as long as my off-peak commute back to San Francisco). There’s only one tunnel in and out of New Monterey, where the Aquarium is

Okay, thanks to several suggestions and an excellent local specialty bike shop, we're going to try these for a little while. Required shifting the brakes and shifters inboard by about 5mm on each side, but that should be okay. I may still play with the rake angle on the new barinds.

Does anyone have experience adding additional hand positions to flat #mountainbike bars? I find that my hands start to go numb after a few hours of easy riding (dirt roads or pavement) and it would be nice to have other options.

Apparently people are putting bar ends in-board of their grips now? Seems like a reasonable solution.

One day, when I decide I have no need of my skull, will try one of these.

LOL i'm afraid to hear how crappy THIS bicycle (named after an automobile) is. Prior reports of these kinds of bicycles gives me much doubt.

In the continuing series of "WHaaa" bicycles for sale here...

Drove by the new tourist attraction today. 🤔

Step 1 of taking a bicycle 120 miles out of San Francisco without a car: ride to BART station (the subway in the Bay Area ). Every car (except the first) is a bike car and it’s relatively easy to strap in

Finally found a 12" square R4-11 "Bicycle May Use Full Lane" sign to mount on the back of the milk crate on my #bicycle's rear rack. $35 for .063" aluminium with diamond grade reflective coating and anti-graffiti film. #BikeTooter

Oh hell yes, I am going to be *that girl* with *that sign*.

"Whereas "Bicycle runs for Christ" by the so-called Christians should be properly termed "bicycle runs for Satan," for the bicycle is the devil’s advance agent, morally and physically, in thousands of instances... the Women's Rescue League denounce bicycle-riding by young women because of producing immoral associations, both in language and dress.."

What's more planet friendly: ugly stainless steel appliances sold by far right billionaires and coveted by crypto-bros, or pedal power? I'm voting for more bicycles.

@ai6yr @marcprecipice @mattblaze
@TheWarOnCars recently did a major reexamination/takedown of that book, and the way its held back cycling for decades in the US. #biketooter

Bicycle lane designations made by recreational/athletic cyclists seem to be made based on completely different criteria than utilitarian cyclists. 🤔

Lessons:
1. Get a better basket (this one was lying around the house)
2. MORE BUNGEE CORDS
3. Still need to figure out how to bring bread back without smashing it... gets smooshed in the backpack, gets smooshed when strapped into a basket.
4. Full week of groceries for the family would be an extreme challenge, even with a trailer, due to weight. Probably requires e-bike with trailer. Or daily trips to the store? Dunno.

Tried hauling a gallon (well, two half gallons) of milk, a package of chicken, sourdough, some peppers and limes home via bicycle on my morning break today. Looks like that is about the limit without a trailer (half strapped on the bike, the rest in a backpack... uphill return).

"I think New Zealanders are sick and tired of the amount of money going into cycleways."

That's NZ's current Transport Minister, Simeon Brown, today.

Does he really think that NZers are sick and tired of spending *1.7%* of our transport budget on walking and cycling?!

He's now halved that spending.

I'm a NZer that's sick and tired of how very little money is spent on cycleways (and buses and light rail).

Checked off (barely) food delivery via bicycle today, LOL. (ran some lunches my son had prepared for himself a few blocks to his house, and put them in his freezer for him, via bicycle.)
