@TheWarOnCars recently did a major reexamination/takedown of that book, and the way its held back cycling for decades in the US. #biketooter

Bicycle lane designations made by recreational/athletic cyclists seem to be made based on completely different criteria than utilitarian cyclists. 🤔

Lessons:
1. Get a better basket (this one was lying around the house)
2. MORE BUNGEE CORDS
3. Still need to figure out how to bring bread back without smashing it... gets smooshed in the backpack, gets smooshed when strapped into a basket.
4. Full week of groceries for the family would be an extreme challenge, even with a trailer, due to weight. Probably requires e-bike with trailer. Or daily trips to the store? Dunno.

Tried hauling a gallon (well, two half gallons) of milk, a package of chicken, sourdough, some peppers and limes home via bicycle on my morning break today. Looks like that is about the limit without a trailer (half strapped on the bike, the rest in a backpack... uphill return).

Does he really think that NZers are sick and tired of spending *1.7%* of our transport budget on walking and cycling?!

He's now halved that spending.

I'm a NZer that's sick and tired of how very little money is spent on cycleways (and buses and light rail).

Checked off (barely) food delivery via bicycle today, LOL. (ran some lunches my son had prepared for himself a few blocks to his house, and put them in his freezer for him, via bicycle.)
