I know I just saw someone else dealing with this recently, but does anyone have any guidance on how one should respond to self evaluations? My system just started them and I don't know how to optimally respond. It's not tied to wages or (supposedly) punishment, so I don't know why the fuck we have to, but here we are.

Update. Gary Price (@infodocket) is collecting statements opposing the #Trump admin's attempt to shut down the Institute of Museum and Library Services (#IMLS). Thanks, Gary!

Update. "#Trump Executive Order Targets #IMLS for Closure"
https://www.wordsandmoney.com/trump-executive-order-targets-imls-for-closure/
"In a March 14 Executive Order, President Donald Trump has targeted seven more federal agencies for permanent closure, including the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
If some parts of IMLS are "statutorily required" and cannot be shut down by an executive order, the #OMB has seven days to show it.
"EveryLibrary is hosting a petition [to keep IMLS open]…The American Library Association has…weighed in with a statement."
Update. "A Call for Harm Reduction Strategies"
https://katinamagazine.org/content/article/open-knowledge/2025/a-call-for-harm-reduction-strategies
"The new US presidential administration has launched an unprecedented assault on research and higher education. This isn’t just collateral damage from wide-ranging realignment of budgets, which would be bad enough, but an orchestrated attack on academic freedom, research funding, and the institutional autonomy that underpins intellectual progress…Resistance is most effective when collective action amplifies individual efforts rather than occurring in isolation. This means fostering more frequent and open dialogue across all sectors of the academic and research community [e.g. #libraries and #publishers]."

* "When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons' borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.
* We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason."
Antifascist Action Brooklyn
I am resisting in place. I won’t march, and I already hold public office, it’s called Public Librarian. I make queer and trans people feel at home and change their name in the catalog and if my coworkers change it back, I change it again. I make rainbow brochures and when they get stolen and trashed I make more. I put book challenge info on the website. I’m safe zone trained and in the trenches. We may need extra funding soon so please remember and support us.
There remains a massive crisis in local library provision, largely hidden from the middle-classes with their kindles, high-speed broadband & delivery of books to home....
But for many, libraries are both an intellectual life-line & an engine of self improvement & stability (or even shelter).
Its yet another aspect of JK Galbraith's tendency in capitalism towards private affluence & public squalor....
Save our libraries from (even) more austerity
Jefferson's ground sloth has arrived at my local library!
"Here's a good idea: Since we're worried about literacy and the Net making people dumb, let's pull 500,000 books from the @InternetArchive's online library. "
