Is It possible that the official #Mastodon android app contains advertisement ? I've recommended the app to a friend and saw a lot of adv show up, which was really surprising. It was installed from the Google Play Store.

I’m proud to be joining @Mastodon’s Board of Directors to guide and support this important platform.

I believe that #Mastodon and the #Fediverse represent some of the most important advancements in social networking design and technology. They have the potential to reverse the harms wrought by the monolithic social media platforms of yesterday.

But even more than that, Mastodon and the Fediverse can be so much more than what we are against. We have so much potential. I believe in all of our power to build and change the world. We start by building and convening in healthier online communities because our strength together is far more than the sum of our differences. #Mastodon has had a nice little uptick in sign-ups and activity from #Taiwan after a facebook post recommending it as an alternative to facebook and Instagram for Taiwanese users went viral on facebook, bringing in about 20K new users over the span of two days to mastodon.social, g0v.social, m.cmx.im and a few more.

I just discovered why some of my followers from larger #Mastodon instances (like mastodon.social) would mysteriously unfollow me after a while!

A pull request was just merged in Mastodon that fixes a critical bug in their follower synchronization mechanism.

Turns out Mastodon implements the FEP-8fcf specification (Followers collection synchronization across servers), but it expected all followers to be in a single page collection. When followers were split across multiple pages, it would only see the first page and incorrectly remove all followers from subsequent pages!

This explains so much about the strange behavior I've been seeing with #Hollo and other #Fedify-based servers over the past few months. Some people would follow me from large instances, then mysteriously unfollow later without any action on their part.

Thankfully this fix has been marked for backporting, so it should appear in an upcoming patch release rather than waiting for the next major version. Great news for all of us building on #ActivityPub!

This is why I love open source—we can identify, understand, and fix these kinds of interoperability issues together. 😊

@GossiTheDog "Mastodon" really needs to get cracking on full data portability, IMHO.

It's a shame this hasn't been pushed higher up on the list of things to do.

I think many people have invested quite a bit of time and effort into their posts and profiles, and moving all that data, or somehow managing a switch-over doesn't seem to be that simple, if at all possible.

Does anyone know where to find a list of posts or conversations that you muted on #Mastodon web. This seems like it should be easy to find but I've looked extensively.

The students applauded and all registered Republican that day and accepted Jesus as their lord and savior. An eagle named "Small Government" flew into the room and perched atop the American Flag and shed a tear on the chalk. The pledge of allegiance was read several times, and God himself showed up and enacted a flat tax rate across the country. I lost my tenure and was fired the next day.

It's far better to commit to a network rather than just make a carbon copy of yourself, because if you're posting exactly the same things, then what even is the point of having two networks?

That's just unnecessarily redundant.
