Watercolor painting of the side of a cottage in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. A two story cottage is sun-drenched with its upper story facade - made of horizontal wood slats showing signs of age in orange, brown and blue - houses a set of three windows above a flower box with vertical wooden slats. The three windows are trimmed with yellow-orange sash and show back darkened window panes, except for the middle which has more muted shades doing to it having a screen. The ground floor has a recessed set of three windows in shades of blue and a singular aged and blue painted shutter to the left. Several indescribable knickknacks clutter the exterior sill. In the foreground is green and ochre grass upon which set several objects, including a home made bench, casting a purple shadow against the cottage.

There was flat, uninteresting light in my room, so I decided to imagine my own dramatic lighting. (A really fun exercise!) If you look closely, you'll spot the shadow of a penguin; Feathers McGraw is standing in the hallway... waiting for me.

After a dark, wet December in The Hague, man, did I need that wonderful sun in Portugal.

Today’s painting. I tried for a higher horizon and a more realistic approach. Colors: ultramarine, cobalt teal, Hansa, raw sienna, burnt sienna, green gold. Brushes: 8, 2, rigger.
