After some German unions yesterday, more than 60 (!!) German universities left #X/#Twitter today. Some are already active on #Mastodon. 2024 is ending, time for a last look at the #traffic to @heiseonline via X/ #Twitter and its alternatives.

#Mastodon was very stable, which made it the biggest source by the end of the year. #Bluesky grew significantly at the end and is now clearly in second place. #X fell the whole year, and our departure (from posting there) just accelerated that. But #Threads (where we can't post automatically) is still far behind.

It took longer, than I expected, but here we are: it seems like this account now brings continuously more #traffic to heise.de than #X (#Twitter) in its entirety, although it only has ¼ of the follower number (and many of them don't seem to be active anymore).

This post from one of the most respected meteorologists in the South (James Spann) is very disheartening, but I think most representative of the MASSIVE disinformation environment on the birdsite (ex-Twitter) and Facebook. I've seen a lot of this from MANY disaster and weather folks over on what-was-Twitter (which they really should abandon, it's literally a get-whacked-in-the-face-by-trolls farm).
