If for whatever reason you never wish to interact with #Threads, you can personally block it for your account. This hides all posts and profiles from Threads, prevents anyone from Threads from following you, and stops your posts from being delivered to or fetched by Threads. Simply click the "Block domain threads.net" option on any Threads profile or post you see in Mastodon.

@Gargron How anyone can say this, watch #Meta behave in the poisonous way it always has, and not advocate blocking #Threads altogether mystifies me.

I mean, if Twitter were federated would that also be ok?

With this current Fedi exodus from Meta platforms and X, I'd like to ask: Could we PLEASE remove the file size limit for posting photos and other images to Mastodon and Pixelfed? They get compressed anyway, so why should the user also have to their own compressing before uploading?

2024 is ending, time for a last look at the #traffic to @heiseonline via X/ #Twitter and its alternatives.

#Mastodon was very stable, which made it the biggest source by the end of the year. #Bluesky grew significantly at the end and is now clearly in second place. #X fell the whole year, and our departure (from posting there) just accelerated that. But #Threads (where we can't post automatically) is still far behind.

Another week is over, time for new stats regarding traffic to @heiseonline: It seems like there is a new balance with #Mastodon in front, #Bluesky brings now half as much. Although we stopped posting to #X, it still brings in more than #Threads and roughly as much as #Flipboard.

I don't see this as a good thing. #Facebook, #Threads, #Instagram etc. are highly toxic digital spaces run by billionaires to further their own self-interests. Personally I'd prefer if the #Fediverse could be run as a separate, better alternative to such spaces.

Are #Mastodon posts inaccessible by #Threads by default (or would we sadly need to take some sort of definite action to prevent them from being able to access our posts)?

Am lucky that I landed here on Mastodon 2 yrs ago instead of #Bluesky or #Threads as they were trying to mimic that dumpster fire place.

I told myself I would not join another corporate social media site from scratch. With no true tech background I figured out how this worked, reached out and found fellow birdsite friends amongst the rubble.

Thank you to @trumpet and team for allowing me to join here on the #scotland instance. (That's another story lol) ❤️

This is a smart move by @Mastodon. #Twitter / #X journalism is struggling, and #Threads doesn’t want journalism. Mastodon is leaning into it though, “To reinforce and encourage Mastodon as the go-to place for journalism, we’re launching a new feature today.” I think this is a lever for differentiation; making Mastodon more valuable to journalists and users.
