Throwback to this unique plushie I made back in 2023. I tend to forget about it but I actually love it! Look at that little guy!

Custom Filters are now available! 🥳

You can now set keyword filters to blur, warn or hide posts that match, across home + public + hashtag feeds!

These are based on the Mastodon v2 Filters API, and should be compatible with 3rd party apps.

Our official app does not properly handle blur or warn context types, but soon will.

The portfolio feature on @pixelfed is pretty neat!

Pixelfed before v0.12.5 has a vulnerability where it could leak your private posts, regardless of whether you are a Pixelfed user or not.
Admins should update ASAP.

When following someone from a different server on the Fediverse, the remote server decides whether you are allowed to do that. This enables features like locked accounts. Due to an implementation mistake, Pixelfed ignores this and allows anyone to follow even private accounts on other servers. If a legitimate user from a Pixelfed instance follows you on your locked account, anyone on that Pixelfed instance can read your private posts.

I wrote a blog post about how I found the vulnerability, how disclosure coordination went and general ramblings about Fediverse safety:

These are the major updates coming to the next Pixelfed app build along with several bug fixes!

John Oliver's Last Week Tonight mentions #Mastodon and #PixelFed as alternatives that are "not as desperate to fall in line with trump".

Honestly 3 things that could make pixel fed better from what I’m thinking 💭 could be

A. Livestream feature 🎥

B. Let us upload videos instead of just photos 🌁

C. Some type of way to make cash 💰??

We're not only building Pixelfed, but also Loops, a TikTok alternative!

We need your support now more than ever, please spread the word about our Kickstarter!

The future is federated, and belongs to the people.

Someone explain PixelFed to me. Can I use it to make it easier to post photos to Mastodon on this account? Or is it a completely different thingy? (By thingy I mean platform or instance.) I don’t find it easy to post photos or short video clips here. Would PixelFed fix that? Or is is just a different realm where people share pictures?

By popular demand, a single post to boost global switch day across multiple platforms on February 1st 2025.

For those who can no longer get behind Musk or Meta's new policies and feel like switching (e.g. from #Whatsapp to #Signal, from #Instagram to #Pixelfed or from #X to #Mastodon) I made you some graphics to use freely in communicating with your contacts.

Let’s lead by example 🙂

Bigger and better!

This past week I have heard the same question thrown around over and over again: "what's the point of setting up a #Pixelfed account if the software is interoperable with the rest of the Fediverse? Why not just post photos on Mastodon or Sharkey or __?"

Well, #Pixelfed allows you to have a beautiful, curated feed of your photos.

See:

2️⃣ the way my #Mastodon feed appears on Pixelfed

as evidence.

Thank you @dansup for giving us an awesome Fedi photo platform 🙏

Yeah, I got into Yale. Big deal.

Imagine being able to use our app with your @Mastodon account.

During an internal pre-hackathon, our team member @trwnh came up with this idea.

Browsing the local feed firehose right now is crazy banana pants.

It's like a big worldwide party going on! 🎉🥳

Holy shit #Pixelfed

😲 This is just nuts! 😲

When you click on 'email' or 'password' you get thrown to "sudo mode" (good luck explaining that) and it looks entirely different. No clear way to 'go back'. You no longer see different profile options. "sudo mode" takes over your browser tab entirely.

What a weird flow.

alright, I'm seeing renewed interest in #pixelfed so I figured I'd explain the #fediverse in a way that makes sense to people. with pictures. sit back, it'll be interesting, I promise! 🧵

(note that this isn't about bluesky. they're built different and I don't know enough about how they work)

With this current Fedi exodus from Meta platforms and X, I'd like to ask: Could we PLEASE remove the file size limit for posting photos and other images to Mastodon and Pixelfed? They get compressed anyway, so why should the user also have to their own compressing before uploading?
