If you are a student going into the software side of tech here are some projects you can do.

- Automate something in your life,

this could be something like making a software that makes your coffee when your alarm rings

- Make a software solution for someone else

make your family a schedule that keeps track of your cats grooming, bathing, feeding statuses and show those statistics in an organized and intuitive graph which can be interacted with.

- Help you reach your goals

make a gooning score board and share it with your friends to see who can goon the longest.

For 2024, I solved Advent of Code in 25 different languages. Was a fun project, sometimes a bit (very) painful (*glances at Erlang and Zig*).

Code (bottom of post) and summary for each language:

Keep in mind that I used most of these language for a few hours tops, so my judgement is very much subjective.

What's your favourite of the bunch?

SAME STATS, DIFFERENT IMPROVEMENTS...

@programming

After 12 months of managing bugs developers A, B, and C changed their approach.

Whose change is an improvement❓ What's your answer❓

Boosts appreciated! :boost_no: 🙂

More generally, the problem is domain independent.

All the shit I've had to deal with over the past year in this job has taught me one valuable lesson: How poorly the tech industry can at times treat women.

Being ignored, dismissed and spoken down to until you get upset, only to then be gaslit into thinking you're being unreasonable or overly emotional is an experience I wish we didn't have to deal with.

It's not only profoundly sexist, but it actively stifles innovation and people's willingness to speak up about problems.

Rant: I think a new interview question is in order for us.

"We have a programatically enforced code formatting standard we've been consistently using for years. Without seeing the output, will you want us to revisit it?"

If they answer anything other than "no," they fail.

I am SICK AND F'ING TIRED of developers fighting over code formatting. No one agrees on one single way.

Our way is both conventional and consistent. Deal with it.

This Amazon CEO describes the added value of generative AI for software development/maintenance, with numbers. Ofcourse he has a clear interest in selling his products, still it looks impressive,
