I'm baffled about the myriad of @mozillaofficial structures, amount of directors / C-level people & how to rhyme 'investing in privacy-respecting advertising; with 'draw a bigger circle of supporters over the long run.'

As a long time Mozilla supporter, I was already unhappy about the direction of the last years & this does certainly not bode well for the future. 😞 😩

Some red flags: 🚩

🚩"Mozilla grants you a personal, non-exclusive license to install and use the “Executable Code" version of the Firefox web browser, which is the ready-to-run version of Firefox from an authorized source that you can open and use right away."

I wonder:
For how long will Mozilla Firefox stay Open Source? It seems the ToS apply only to the executable of an authorized source. Anyone compiling their own seems out of scope of these ToS?

Well, that was quick!

I wrote about about my disappointment with @mozillaofficial changes:

Seems they were just starting 🙄

Read

Check
- https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/legal/terms/firefox/

Consider other Open Source apps you may use: aren't you sad that these lack ToS & Privacy legalese?

My advise: move away from Mozilla.

They have lost my trust.

Giving it this name is such a Malaysian thing to do 😆

Sohai - the nicest translation is "idiot", but it basically means "stupid c**t" in Cantonese 💩

Dear folks in tech,

You don’t have to literally pull a trigger to erase vulnerable people from existence. You can do it with just a few keystrokes. And pave the way for those who will pull the triggers.

Withhold your keystrokes.

Use your keystrokes to resist.

Your keystrokes can kill or they can protect.

Your keystrokes will determine the person you have to live with for the rest of your life.

If you are a student going into the software side of tech here are some projects you can do.

- Automate something in your life,

this could be something like making a software that makes your coffee when your alarm rings

- Make a software solution for someone else

make your family a schedule that keeps track of your cats grooming, bathing, feeding statuses and show those statistics in an organized and intuitive graph which can be interacted with.

- Help you reach your goals

make a gooning score board and share it with your friends to see who can goon the longest.

Location data collected by over a hundred Dutch apps are for sale online.

It appears that the owner of popular weather app Buienalarm (Rain Alarm, in rough translation) does not know how the location data of its users ended up at this data broker. The app has 5 million users, a quarter of all people in The Netherlands. (Yes, it’s a rainy country.)

Latest comic. A British consumer rights group examined unnecessary data harvesting by “smart” devices, including air fryers connected to phone apps. While these devices may not pose the greatest privacy risk in our everyday lives, they are part of a growing Internet of Things capable of collecting data when and where we least expect it.

SAME STATS, DIFFERENT IMPROVEMENTS...

@programming

After 12 months of managing bugs developers A, B, and C changed their approach.

Whose change is an improvement❓ What's your answer❓

Boosts appreciated! :boost_no: 🙂

More generally, the problem is domain independent.

Young people are good with computers, so we don't need to teach them computing basics in school anymore.

[some years later]

Huh, the younger generation isn't very good with computers. Wonder why that is… Let's blame it on short attention spans and tiktoks or something.

no longer at the restaurant as of about a week ago, and it's looking like i'm going to need to have a van to crash in as backup sooner rather than later.

so in the next couple days i'll be listing a few things on ebay to help make ends meet. going to put them here first though because i trust you folks more than ebay randos. DM if any of these catch your eye, and please boost to help these go to a loving home and not ebay scalpers

nikon d3000 w/ 35mm 1.18g DX crop lens: 300 USD
nord lead 2x with case: 900 USD
thinkpad x250: 100 USD
thinkpad t460s: 100 USD
thinkpad x61 tablet (with yellowed screen): 50 USD

prices don't include shipping (would be shocked if anything other than the Nord costs less than twenty bucks to ship), and at this moment i'm only able to ship to the US. everything works, all lappies come without hard drives. prices negotiable, but don't be a lowballing jackass

love you all

Look who’s made it all the way to Mexico City and straight to networking at the #Nerdearla2024 conference!

All the shit I've had to deal with over the past year in this job has taught me one valuable lesson: How poorly the tech industry can at times treat women.

Being ignored, dismissed and spoken down to until you get upset, only to then be gaslit into thinking you're being unreasonable or overly emotional is an experience I wish we didn't have to deal with.

It's not only profoundly sexist, but it actively stifles innovation and people's willingness to speak up about problems.
