This is how, as a company, you leave that terrible website that fElon now runs

Is #Mastodon all perfect and shiny?

No.

Do I feel way less harassed here than #Twitter?

Yes.

Would I trust a corporation like #Bluesky again after the Twitter dumpster fire?

No. x 1,000

There are so many smart people working to make this place better and I appreciate them. Thank you! ✨

Honestly baffled

@Gargron TY for all your hard work. I believe it is paying off. I left #twitter in 2017 but went cold turkey. Tried #bluesky earlier this year but after a week I deactivated because it felt the same as twitter and I left twitter because of how bad it made me feel. A few weeks ago I decided to try mastodon and it hits different. I'm not steeling myself before opening the app. I'm still getting a feel for it but I'm I haven't left yet and don't intend to any time soon. Long live the

Am lucky that I landed here on Mastodon 2 yrs ago instead of #Bluesky or #Threads as they were trying to mimic that dumpster fire place.

I told myself I would not join another corporate social media site from scratch. With no true tech background I figured out how this worked, reached out and found fellow birdsite friends amongst the rubble.

Thank you to @trumpet and team for allowing me to join here on the #scotland instance. (That's another story lol) ❤️

Exactly two years ago, we started to post links on #Mastodon via our account @heiseonline 👇

https://mastodon.social/@heiseonline/109314036284496776

It took longer, than I expected, but here we are: it seems like this account now brings continuously more #traffic to heise.de than #X (#Twitter) in its entirety, although it only has ¼ of the follower number (and many of them don't seem to be active anymore).
I'll prepare some graphs after the weekend.

Vorerst ist das hier der offizielle Mastodon-Account von heise online.
Wird jetzt erst einmal händisch befüllt, aber wir haben schon weitergehende Pläne und wollen hier mehr machen.

Democrats on #Twitter are shocked—shocked!—to discover that a mysterious cloak of invisibility has descended over their messages.

🚀1 year since we left #X / #Twitter

Our move to #Mastodon wasn't just a platform switch. It was a leap into #OpenScience in action.

We found a chance to align our communication w/ our values: transparent, meaningful, dialogue-driven.

💜Thanks, 🦣-community, for this wonderful experience. We learn a lot here.

👋We hope to encourage other academic institutions to join.

“For Twitter to earn the public trust, it must remain politically neutral,” so says the man wearing a MAGA hat. File this one under “tweets that didn’t age well.”

Hi, feel like promoting #mastodon ? We are going to raid elon Musk’s #centralized #proprietary #twitter #twixxer #x promoting to migrate here. If you feel like promoting the #fediverse against proprietary centralized social media, this is your chance. Feel free to post links below and to boost the ones below :).

I try not to judge people who feel they must remain on Twitter for professional reasons.

But it's getting harder and harder to respect that choice. After a long absence I took a peek at my feed there and this is what I saw.

I'm not naming names. And there are so many of you. How, at this point, do you justify being there?

2/ This raises some nice questions.

What did the algorithm look for? Which should we trust more, someone's self-description or an algorithmic analysis of their #Twitter posts? Why might someone's self-description depart from their Twitter persona?

The article summarizes a study by Nicholas Havey forthcoming in The Review of Higher Education. We should know more soon.

1/ When surveys ask academics to self-describe their political leanings, we get the familiar result that the vast majority lean left. When an algorithm analyzes their #Twitter posts, we still find a left-leaning majority but we also find more centrists and conservatives than the surveys do.

This is a smart move by @Mastodon. #Twitter / #X journalism is struggling, and #Threads doesn’t want journalism. Mastodon is leaning into it though, “To reinforce and encourage Mastodon as the go-to place for journalism, we’re launching a new feature today.” I think this is a lever for differentiation; making Mastodon more valuable to journalists and users.
